Q: Does Wind Deco have damp location fans? Are your fans intended for outdoor use?
A: Wind Deco has several models designed for damp location, which are available only in specific finishes. These fans have been specially designed for locations that are damp or humid, such as porches, verandas, waterfront homes and patios. However, even with fan models that are designed for Damp Locations, the outlet box and the fan itself must be completely under cover and not exposed directly to water spray or rain. Fans that are designed for Damp Locations are not meant to be used outdoors in wet or high wind locations.
Q: Which fan/blade combination provides maximum air movement?
A: The more narrow blades (e.g., the standard oar and the narrow oval) provide a greater amount of airflow. A more rigid blade such as wood or bamboo provides better airflow than a less rigid blade such as natural palm.
Q: How should I clean the blades on my fan?
A: Dust them regularly with a feather duster or soft dusting brush. Because of their coating and durability, the wicker, bamboo, and wood blades can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
Q: My fan is wobbling. What can I do to fix this?
A: Check that the hanger ball (on the downrod) is locked into its slot in the hanger bracket. Also, check to ensure that each bladeholder is screwed into the flywheel securely. If wobbling continues, try rearranging the blades around the flywheel.
Q: My fan is making a humming sound. How can I fix this?
A: Make sure you are using the appropriate Wind Deco speed control. If you are doing so, and the fan is still humming, you may have a faulty control and replacing the control may solve the problem. If you are using another type of control that does not have set speeds (low, medium, high), that is probably the cause of the noise.
Q: The fan is making a squeaking noise. What can I do to fix this?
A: Make sure all connections are tight; ceiling canopy, hanger ball, downrod support, blade holders, flywheel set screw, switch cup housing, light kit or fitter.
Q: My fan is not turning at all. How can I fix this?
A: Make sure you are using the appropriate Wind Deco speed control. You should also check to make sure the "reverse switch" on the switch housing cap at the bottom of the fan is pushed completely up or down. If this switch is in the middle, the fan will not run. Also check the wire connection in the outlet box.
Q: Is there a guarantee/warranty on the fan blades?
A: The fan blades are not guaranteed/warranted for any specified amount of time. Depending on the use and location of the fan, you should expect to replace your palm leaf blades every three to five years. The wicker or bamboo blades should not need to be replaced for at least 10 years. Of course, if you receive a blade set with damaged blades in it, Wind Deco will replace any blades needed to hang the fan.
Q: What is the warranty on my Wind Deco fan?
A: The warranty varies from fan to fan. Check the Owner’s Manual PDF file on the individual fan pages to read the warranty for that specific fan.
Q: What is the blade sweep of a fan?
A: The blade sweep of a fan is generally the circular area that is covered by the fan's blades while in rotation. The diameter of a fan's blade sweep, on fans with multiple blades, is measured by taking the distance from the edge of one blade to the edge of the opposite blade. See your fan's specifications sheet PDF on each individual fan page for more information about blade sweep.
Q: What is the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) rate for my fan?
A: The RPM varies greatly, depending on the blade size and material, the pole length and the space between the fan and the ceiling or wall. Smaller 18" blades, as well as blades of lighter material, increase the RPM rate. Check the specifications sheet of your fan for the approximate RPM rate of your specific fan.
Q: Which Wind Deco fans accept a light kit or fitter?
A: All of the Wind Deco fans currently offered on the site accept light kits
Q: Can I use a light kit or fitter that is not manufactured by Fanimation for a Fanimation fan?
A: Most standard light kits and fitters will fit the housing of Fanimation fans. However, the manufacturer does not test these products made by other manufacturers and therefore, they cannot guarantee that they will work properly on Fanimation fans sold by Wind Deco.
Q: What is the difference between a light kit and a fitter?
A: A fitter requires glass. A light kit contains all the hardware, attachment pieces and glass required for use on the fan.
Q. Are light bulbs included with Wind Deco light kits?
A: Most fans with lights or light kits do not include the light bulbs. Check the specific product page for more information on type or size of light bulbs required.
Q: Can I use another manufacturer's glass in my Fanimation fitter sold through Wind Deco?
A: The Fanimation four-light fitters that require four pieces of glass will take most standard 2 1/4" glass pieces.
Q: How can I extend my pole farther than your longest pole, which is 72"?
A: The downrod and the extension poles can be extended by using a coupler to join two poles together. You will need to purchase a combination of downrods/extension poles that equal the desired length and then purchase the corresponding coupler to join them together. We do not recommend extending the drop farther than 10-12 feet.
Q: How much length does the light kit add to the overall drop of the fan?
A: The light kits are between 3 1/2-7 1/2" overall. Simply add this dimension to the overall drop length of the fan.
Q: Is a downrod and/or extension pole included with every Wind Deco fan?
A: Not all model fans sold by Wind Deco include a downrod or extension pole. Check the individual product page for more information.
Q: Can I cut the downrod/extension pole to my desired length?
A: If necessary the downrods and extension poles can be cut to your desired length. It is not recommended to cut the downrod less than 6" or the extension pole less than 24". If cutting is necessary, using a licensed electrician is recommended.
